DAY 1: AVIGNON

After arrival, relax at your hotel at the beginning of the afternoon. It is possible to arrive Aix en Provence , or Marseille
Participate in a walking tour of the City (signposted tourist route) of the main monuments (optional visit the Papal Palace) the City of the Popes: feet 4 marked paths: la Promenade des Doms, la Promenade Joseph Vernet, la Promenade des Teinturiers and la Promenade de la Carreterie. You will discover the charms of the city such as the churches, chapels, the old streets and mansions. Discover Old Avignon behind the castle of the Popes in Avignon and the famous wine bar “ la Vache à Carreaux ” with its wine cellar that dates back to the 16th century.

DAY 2: AVIGNON – ST REMY DE PROVENCE – LES BAUX DE PROVENCE – MONTMAJOUR – ARLES-AVIGNON

Begin a tour of Provence with the historic site of St Rémy de Provence that is located in the heart of Provence, Saint Remy. It is part of the best archaeological sites in Provence. You will find the Antiques, visit the Greco Roman archaeological site of Glanum, the baths and the old city of Gallo-Roman and the famous Arc de Triomphe. It is also known for Vincent Van Gogh, who painted over 150 paintings in the countryside of Saint Rémy de Provence. Les Baux de Provence ranked among the most beautiful villages in France (Optional visit Cathédrale d’images). Visit Montmajour Abbey. Built on a rocky island, the Abbey of Montmajour is a classified UNESCO heritage. It symbolises an extraordinary Romanesque architecture: gothic and classical.

DAY 3: CAMARGUE – ST MARY OF THE SEA – ARLES

With its vast wilderness, the Camargue is a unique paradise of bulls, white Camargue horses, and migratory birds, including the flamingo which is the symbol of the Camargue. You will cross the Petite Camargue to arrive at Saintes Maries de la Mer with its fortress church that contains the relics of the Saints. According to legend, the shore once welcomed at the dawn of the Christianity Marie Jacobi, Marie Salomé and their black servant Sara, persecuted Christians escaping from Palestine on a boat without a rudder. Two great pilgrimages take place each year including gypsies, which is very festive, colourful and lively, people come from all over Europe. Then you will discover the Camargue Wild to visit the bird park, Pont de Gau to discover the thousands of wild birds that nest in Camargue. You will pass through rice fields to join Arles, capital of the Camargue. Arles la Romaine: visit the Arena, the ancient theatre, the Alyscamps, the church and Lecloitre St Trophime, a masterpiece of Romanesque Provence

DAY4: NIMES – PONT DU GARD – UZES – TARASCON – AVIGNON

Nimes is known for its Roman monuments and bullfighting festivals.

The numerous Camarguaise herds of horses and cattle can tell you that the “bull” in bullfighting is a myth in Camargue. La Féria de Nîmes de Pentecôte et des Vendanges are two important festivals in Camargue. Visit one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatre and Roman temples to be found anywhere in the territory of the former Roman Empire, visit the Arena in Nimes and The Maison Carrée (Square House).

Visit the Pont du Gard, a Roman aqueduct at 3 levels, which was added to UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites in 1985 because of its historical importance.
Then visit the medieval town of Uzes listed as a ‘town of art and history’ (Optional: Visit Haribo candy museum, a fun and educational visit for children). Discover the city of Tarascon on the edge of the Rhone, between Avignon, Camargue and Luberon where the castle of King René overlooking the Rhone still stands. It is one of the most beautiful medieval castles of France.

The Luberon has been a Regional Park since 1977. The Luberon’s attractive perched medieval villages (Bonnieux, Roussillon, Lourmarin, Gordes …), local products and crafts make it a memorable stay in Provence.

DAY5: LE LUBERON HILLTOPS MEDIEVALS VILLAGES – FONTAINE DE VAUCLUSE – SENANQUE – ROUSSILLON – APT – BONNIEUX –LACOSTE – MENERBES – AVIGNON

You will visit and discover the medieval villages of Luberon, which are the hilltop villages and rugged landscapes of Provence. You will love the colours of Luberon and you will also like the historical and cultural site of Lourmarin. It is an ideal place for enjoying a Provencal lunch. You have other perched villages around which are full of beautiful surprises such as Gordes, Lacoste Roussillon and also Vaugines or Mirabeau. They are less famous but are still very charming and certainly worth for a visit. If you like the French writer Marcel Pagnol, you cannot miss the place where the movie “Jean de Florette” and “Manon des Sources” was filmed … and many other places to discover like the amazing Provencal medieval villages, Bonnieux Oppède, and Ménerbes.

DAY6: AVIGNON
