Description

ARLES – ST REMY OF PROVENCE – THE BAUX HILLTOP VILLAGE- ST MARIE OF THE SEA follow the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh

In February 1888, Vincent Van Gogh left Paris for Arles. He lived in Provence over 2 years, seeking for the South light. He wrote a famous sentence praised by his friend Toulouse-Lautrec , “I believe that the entire future of the new art is located in the Midi “.He loves the sharp blue sky and the clarity of the air. The eyes and senses of the painter are exhilarated by the blossoms of orchards, oleanders, violet earth, silver olive trees, the deep green of the cypresses of Provencal life in the fields … The changing colours in the Mediterranean water. All those colours stand out and give the power of expression in Van Gogh’s paintings. As intense as light, feverish inspiration led him to run hundreds of drawings and paintings during the fifteen months of his stay in Arles, the most famous of his works exhibited now in Amsterdam, New York, Chicago, Moscow and in Paris.
