In the XIV th century, during their stay in Avignon, the Popes, especially John XXII, built the Pontifical castle Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Seduced by the exceptional terroir, they developed the vineyards on the hillsides surrounding the Castle.
The Beaurenard Domain has been a family estate for 7 generations to Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A deed of 16 December 1695, mentions “Bois Renard,” which became over the years “ Beauregard “.
A land blessed by the gods
The 13 varieties, the sun and the Mistral are since centuries the fundamental appellation Châteauneuf-du-Pape
The soil in Châteauneuf-du-Pape is unique: its large stones, heated by the sun, in soil providentially spread a gentle heat, favoring maturity and concentration of grapes. The estate has the “Symphony of 13 varieties”characteristic of the appellation, bringing aromatic complexity, power and balance.
For red wines, 4 dominant Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, supplemented by Counoise, spangle, black and Terret Vaccarèse. The white wines are made from white grape varieties: Clairette, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, white Grenache, Picpoul and Picardan. The average age of the vines is about 45 years old with a yield, Chateauneuf, ranging from 15 to 35 hl / ha.
A Rasteau , the soil is clay and limestone with a basement of blue clay, on slopes and terraces face south. The yields are low (from 25 to 38 hl / ha).
